DAREN CHADWICK - Engineer, Producer & Consultant
Background:
Daren has worked with some of the greatest recording artists of our time,
including Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, John Mellenkamp, George
Harrison, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Little Richard, Joe
Satriani, Harry Belafonte, and Motley Crüe at major recording facilities
such as A&M Records Studio, Cherokee Recording Studios, Hyde Street
Studios, Secret Sound L.A., Slippery Studios, Village Recorder, The Plant,
and Cheshire Studios, on many of the major record labels including A&M,
Epic, Warner Brothers, Reprise, and MCA.
Daren is the recipient of over 15 RIAA Gold and Platinum Albums for his
engineering contributions, including Jody Watley (Jody Watley, 1987
MCA Records) for which she won a Grammy for best new artist and had four
Billboard top ten singles (two that went to number one); Chicago 19
(Chicago, 1988 Reprise/Warner Records) with three Billboard top ten singles;
Bad English (Bad English, 1989 Epic Records) featuring a Billboard
number one single; Chicago Greatest Hits 1982-1989 (Chicago, 1990
Reprise/Warner Records) with two new songs that were Billboard top ten hits,
and more too numerous to mention.
He has also provided the engineering on several motion picture soundtracks,
including Dolby Surround Sound mixing, for such films as Lethal Weapon
II, Color of Money, Burglar, Repo-Man, Ishtar (sorry), Where the
Boys Are, as well as broadcast television including Fame, Solid Gold,
and Unsolved Mysteries.
Daren began audio engineering for his father's live sound company, Sound
Advice Sound Systems, in 1974 at age 15 where he did live sound for concerts
and other productions. While enrolled in the recording engineering program
at Golden West College in 1981, Daren began working as an assistant engineer
for Cherokee Recording Studios in Hollywood, California, where he became
familiar with the different styles and recording techniques of many of the
world's top recording engineers and music producers.
Now himself a world class engineer and producer, Daren has worked in the
studio with producers such as Quincy Jones, George Martin, Burt Bacharach,
Don Was, Bernard Edwards, Jimi Iovine, and James Guthrie.
In 1991 Daren and Richard Karst
began collaborating in the recording studio and proceeded to arrange, produce
and record children's music for artists such as The Banana Slug String Band
including Goin' Wild which won the 2000 Indie Award for Best Children's
Music Album, and Penguin Parade, recipient of the Parent's Choice
Gold Award) and Mara Beckerman (Seeing With My Ears, 1995 Storysong
Productions), and projects for National Public Radio (Castle Cottage and
Pickleberry Pie) and a children's variety television show.
Today, Richard and Daren continue to produce albums by talented new artists
on their record label KC Records.
The most recent CD release from KC Records, "Busy On You" by blues
master John Morris, features the original Morris composition "Mystery
Train" which is currently being covered by blues legend John Lee Hooker.
